Hanabi Blog Reflection

Hanabi was probably my least favorite game so far because to me it was not a very interesting concept. While I do enjoy cooperative games usually this one just held so little to keep it interesting that I can not even begin to understand why it got the game of the year award in 2013. It makes me think that they just chose a year where all the other games were somehow even worse. Admittedly it was well enough produced at least. Leadership in this one came from every person working together to help the rest of the group play the right cards so the team could succeed. It is notable though that we ended up really not playing the game to strictest rules in order to keep it fun for our group. This was really a team effort with all players helping to offer up new rules and ways to play to keep it fun. So the hardest part was therefor keeping ourselves entertained with such a dull game. I expect this game might work better with more serious players but it really wasn’t good for our relaxed freedom seeking group. For example I think my grandmother might enjoy this game more because she seems to like cute and simple games.
