Andrey Kurkov is one of the most popular writers living in contemporary Ukraine. Kurkov visited Miami University in 2008 to talk about contemporary Ukrainian fiction and to introduce the film, A Friend of the Deceased, based on his novella A Matter of Death and Life (Kurkov wrote the screenplay). He also met with Miami students on the 2011 Havighurst Summer Workshop led by Vitaly Chernetsky.
