There is a growing emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion programs at colleges and universities across the United States. Previous research has corroborated the need and positive benefits of these programs on undergraduate students and their sense of belonging. We conducted a survey of 70 students at Miami University in a scholars program to gather information on the effectiveness of these DEI programs at Miami; whether they encourage diversity and equity, harm diversity and equity, or cause diversity and equity to plateau. We received 27 total responses. Our findings suggest that programs that encourage more diversity allow for better student performance and motivation, being able to identify with professors allows for higher student performance and happiness, effective DEI programs invites inclusivity among staff, and a diverse student population promotes student empowerment. This research activity has taught us critical research skills that will aide us in our future careers in the College of Arts and Sciences.
