What is the Oxford Community Arts Center?
“The Mission of the Oxford Community Arts Center (OCAC) is to ENRICH lives and build community by providing, celebrating and promoting a diverse array of cultural and arts programming, performances and exhibits; carefully PRESERVE the historic Oxford College building and campus as a welcoming environment offering classroom, studio, rehearsal, concert, theatre and meeting spaces; and ENSURE the Center’s ability to serve future generations as a catalyst, connector and magnet for emerging and established artists, performers, students, visitors and arts organizations”- OCAC
Where is it located?
The Oxford Community Arts Center is located Uptown on South College Ave. The center inhabits what used to be a historic building for the Oxford College of Women. When Miami University was about to tear it down, the OCAC stepped in to save the building!
What types of things does OCAC offer?
Oxford Community Arts Center hosts many community events such as theater productions and concerts, offers art and dance classes for adults and children, hosts exhibitions, and allows the space to be rented out by various organizations for events and even weddings!
On the second Friday of each month, the Center hosts its “Second Friday” event from 6-9pm. This free event includes exciting concerts by local musicians and exhibitions opening with an artists’ reception. Art studios and an art shop give guests the opportunity to view creative art spaces, as well as purchase artwork from the artists.
Upcoming Events:
- Weekly Adult “Groove & Be” dance sessions offered on Fridays and Saturdays. G&B is a 1 hour dance session all about self-expression and love. It draws upon the aesthetics of Hip Hop, Afro House, West African, and Nia dance.
- “Around the World in 80 Days”. Friday, February 3, 2017, 7:00pm All Family Performance Series shows are FREE and open to the public.
- “Second Friday.” Friday, February 10, 2017. Oxford’s monthly celebration of the arts, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.
- “Night Mission Ballroom Dance”. Tuesday, February 14, 2017. From 7:30 to 10:30 PM, come dance the Swing, Waltz, Rumba, Cha cha, Foxtrot, Tango and more. $10 at the door.
- “Oxford Community Square Dance”. Friday, February 17, 2017. Just $5.00 at the door Starting at 7:30pm.
- “Jumping Over the Moon: A Puppet Musical”. Tuesday, February 28th, 2017, 7:00pm. Admission is FREE.
