My name is Kaitlin Valdick, I am a junior at Miami University from Glen Ellyn, IL. I am a nutrition major with a concentration in dietetics and I have general business and digital marketing minors. I am on the Miami University Dance Team and work as the Student Associate for Health and Wellness for Student Life and TriHealth. I am also a part of various other campus organizations such as Gamma Phi Beta, Delta Epsilon Mu, and the Student Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (SAND). Come and follow along with me as I go through a typical Tuesday in my life as a Miami junior!

9 a.m. – Since I don’t start class until later, I like to let myself catch up on sleep and wake up without an alarm on Tuesdays. This morning I woke up around 9 a.m. and lay in bed scrolling through my phone for 15 more minutes because I have to procrastinate getting out of bed. Then I start my typical morning routine. I wash my face, brush my teeth, and throw on a pair of leggings and a sweatshirt for the day.

An empty sidewalk lined with trees from the walk to campus.
Not a bad walk to class.

9:30 a.m. – I make myself some egg bites and coffee, which I just pop in the microwave. While I eat my breakfast, I start some work. Depending on what I have going on each week, what I do during my mornings before class varies. This morning I log into my phone for work and make an Instagram story about a new mental health app to post later in the week. Then I start an assignment for my IMS 414: Web and Social Media Analytics class. We are finishing up our final projects on social media analytics for a focus company using a software called Tableau and this is one of the last graphs I have to make before final edits.

11:15 a.m. – I pack up for my class and head out the door. Today’s class is ECO 201: Intro to Microeconomics, which is for my general business minor. My class is in the Farmer School of Business, which is roughly a mile from my house. The walk isn’t too bad, especially when I listen to music or a podcast on the walk there. Today I listened to Emma Chamberlain’s podcast “Anything Goes”. 10/10 would recommend.

A hearty, healthy looking kale salad with apples, cheese, avocado, and more.
A truly delicious salad.

1 p.m. – After class, I head back home and make myself a big salad for lunch. I made it with kale, canned chicken, apple, avocado, goat cheese, and pecans. Probably one of the best salads I have ever made myself. Don’t knock it until you try it!

1:30 p.m. – I only have one class on Tuesdays, so I use my huge chunk of time to get ahead on my work. I start on editing my slides for my SAND (Student Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics) meeting later on. I am the treasurer so I collect dues and get funding from ASG (Associated Student Government) for the organization.

2:30 p.m. – I move on to some homework. Today I finally (for once!) found myself extra ahead of my work. I have my last O-chem exam coming up, so I actually start to study early, a very rare occurrence. This consists of making color coordinated study guides and trying to remember what my notes mean from lectures.

4 p.m. – Of course, not all the time is spent on homework . I also got caught in a TikTok mindless scroll for a bit (my favorite form of procrastination). Oops!

5:15 p.m. – I make pasta with shrimp for dinner and head out again by 5:50. Some days my housemates and I will all eat dinner together but today I have to eat earlier than them because I have a meeting on campus.

SAND has been such a great experience!

6 p.m. – I have my monthly SAND (Student Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics) meeting in McGuffey Hall. It is our final meeting of the fall semester. The meeting lasts about 45 minutes.

7 p.m. – All my housemates are on the dance team with me. They pick me up and we go to dance team practice straight from the meeting. Tonight we work on technique, clean up our basketball performance routine, and go over our pom nationals routine we just learned.

10 p.m. – After practice, I head home and sit on the couch and catch up with my housemates. Another one of my favorite forms of procrastination!

11 p.m. – I finally get myself off the couch to take a shower and get ready for bed. Once I am in bed, I start on some additional assignments that are easy to complete. I submit a quiz for ISA 211 then start making my to-do list for tomorrow while watching “New Girl.” It serves as a wonderful background noise.

Midnight: I turn my sound machine on, which is a MUST have when you live as close to the train as I do, and set my alarm for the morning before going to sleep.
