You have made it! You survived midterms and are halfway through the semester. Spring Break is here and is the perfect time to relax. If you have opted to stay in Oxford this Break for a “staycation”, we totally get it! Here are a few ways to make the most of your Spring Break in Oxford!
If you live in a residence hall it is important to note that you must request to stay in the dorm (with a valid reason for staying) ahead of time through the MyCard website for $37 per day.
Solo Movie Night
Your house or residence hall will be quiet and the tv will be evidently be available. Use this to your advantage and try watching a new tv series or movie that’s been on your watchlist. This is the perfect opportunity to also rewatch some of your all-time favorites through a movie marathon too!
If you don’t have a streaming service, Miami University offers Philo Edu to all residential students. Philo Edu allows you to watch live television from your laptop and other devices on campus, as well as record shows or movies ahead of time.
Have a dance party
Relieve all your post-exam stress through a dance session. No one will be there to judge, so just have fun! Crank up the music (within reason. There are still laws.) without bothering your room or housemates this week. Also consider spending sometime this break updating your music playlists with all of your new favorite songs. This way when classes start again, you’ll be prepared and have a song for every scenario you face.
Try a new hobby
Have you always wanted to try cooking? It’s a great time to experiment in the kitchen when no one is around. Or maybe you are interested in improving your health and want to start running. The weather is finally getting better so this is a great opportunity to try that out too. No matter the hobby, this is a great time to start something new, because you have a whole week to master it!
Catch up on sleep
With everyone gone, the campus will be relatively peaceful and quiet. Take this opportunity to catch up on all that sleep you wish you had time for during the semester. The weather will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s, so you may consider bringing a hammock or blanket to your closest quad and laying outside.
Spring cleaning
Open the windows and let in some fresh air! Now is a great opportunity to restore some freshness back to your room. Cleaning is also a great way to reduce stress, which comes at perfect timing with the midterms you just took. Bonus! You will be able to use all of the laundry machines at once without feeling guilty!
Explore Oxford
Support local businesses by taking advantage of super short (or non-existing) lines at uptown restaurants. Or grab an uber and check out Hueston Woods (just a few miles outside Oxford city limits). It offers activities like mountain biking, sailing, rowing, hiking, camping, and a beautiful lodge. Or check out the relatively new Oxford Area Bike Trails to get a new view of Oxford.
