With another school year flying by, many of us seniors are looking to fill every last minute with memories. For some of us, that manifests in the form of a senior year bucket list. If you are looking for some Miami traditions or local hidden gems to add to your bucket list, here are some ideas from your fellow seniors.

Eat a Toasted Roll

This Miami tradition dates back to 1929! The toasted roll is available at Pulley Diner and it always surprises me how many students have never tried one. It is a way to be a part of a nearly 100 year old legacy of Miami students. Go to Pulley and take a bite of Miami history.

Eat at every place in Armstrong

Since my first year at Miami, there have been a few changes to the restaurants in Armstrong. And if you are anything like me your dining dollars ran out a while ago, and you probably haven’t tried something from every dining location in Armstrong. Either plan to space it out over the semester between classes, or do a muckbang with your friends.

Try all the places uptown

Just like Armstrong, there have been many changes to uptown Oxford in the past four years. The next time you are looking to eat out, try a new restaurant or one that you have always walked by but never stopped in. Then you will have a memory and roadmap of what Oxford looked like when you went to school here, so when you return you can see how much it has changed.

Butler County Donut Trail

I would consider the Butler County Donut Trail one of the greater Oxford area’s hidden gems. It is a challenge to go to 12 bakeries and eat a donut at each one (or at least buy one). I have done the Donut Trail three times over my four years at Miami and it’s always a blast. You can either spread it out over your semester or do the extreme version where you hit all twelve in one day. Be sure to head out early though; some bakeries sell out of donuts before 10 a.m. The key is to plan ahead. You can get started at the Oxford Doughnut Shoppe and pick up a passport, or you can print one off Butler County’s website. The best part about this tour, besides all the donuts, is that donuts are fairly cheap and you get a free t-shirt at the end of it!

Go to an event on campus that you have never checked out before

The spring semester is always filled with tons of events o. From sporting events to moonlight skates to spring fest, there is always something to do. And usually for free! We won’t always have unlimited access to free, nearby, fun events with a bunch of people our exact same age after college. Take advantage while you can!

Attend one of every sports home game

While some sports seasons are over, many others are in full swing right now. Miami hockey, basketball, baseball, softball, and swim and dive are all in their seasons. Going to a sporting event is a great way to express pride in your school and make some memories. Take a look at the schedule for all Miami sporting events.

Make a team and play an intramural sport

Intramural sports have a long history at Miami and for a good reason. They are a great way to stay active, make new friends, and gain or maintain a hobby. Miami has several diverse options for intramurals including spike ball, soccer, curling, and, an Ohio original, broomball. Intramurals are a huge area of student involvement with a bunch of potential. I personally have enjoyed several seasons of both curling and broomball in my time at Miami. It has allowed me to meet so many new people and stay active throughout the week. Get some friends together and make a team today!

It’s easy to get senioritis and fall into a routine of just doing what you’ve been doing for the past four years, but here is your sign to do something special with the time you have left. Make your Miami experience as fun as you can until the very last moment. It goes by so fast.
