1. Duo Mobile
This one is an absolute MUST. You need Duo Mobile to access Canvas, email, and any other Miami account.
Duo Mobile is Miami’s security software that helps prevent people from hacking into your private accounts. When you try to login to a Miami account, you’ll be prompted to send a push notification to your phone which you can accept through the app.
Pro-tip: Make sure to check the “14 day box” when you use Duo Mobile so that you don’t need to use it every time you log on.
2. BuzTrakr
If you plan to take the bus around campus and Oxford, this app is essential! It shows every bus line currently in service and where the buses are exactly located. You can see how far the bus is from your next stop.
Please note – it only works on Miami’s wifi so you will need to be on-campus to use it.
3. Cbord Mobile ID
Mobile ID serves as your virtual ID card. This app can be used as a backup option to get into your room or swipe at the dining hall if you forget your ID card.
You should continue to carry around your ID card, as Mobile ID isn’t always 100% reliable.
Also – you can only use this app while on campus.
4. Canvas
Viewing your grades and assignments on-the-go is made simple through the Canvas app. The app sends notifications when your professors send reminders and grade updates.
If you are walking to class, the app makes it easy to look on Canvas without having to pull out your whole laptop.
5. Google Calendar
It’s no secret college students are very busy between balancing their academic and social calendars. Since you may not always have your planner on hand, it’s helpful to use Google Calendar instead. The calendar is available through your computer or phone and is a great tool to keep track of your schedule.
There are also features to share your calendar with other students, which can help you find a time to meet for group projects or even grab lunch with friends.
6. Miami University Events App
The Events app, which you may already have from Summer Orientation, will help get you through the first 50 days of the fall semester.
Inside the app, click “Download Guides” and select the “Orientation and Transition” guide to access orientation and Welcome Week schedules, maps, and other helpful information.
7. RAVEGuardian
Rave Guardian provides safety features to members of the Miami community. Through the app, you can submit tips and message the Miami University Police Department (MUPD).
There’s an emergency call button, a safety timer to provide your location and status to someone you trust, and more!
8. GET Mobile
GET is Dining Services’ mobile portal. You can find locations and hours of operation, order food, check recent transactions and account balances and more!
Anyone with a Miami uniqueID can register for an account through GET.
9. Bonus Apps
Many students also use these non-Miami apps as well.
GroupMe. A popular app for communicating with groups. Students use it to communicate with their residence hall, group projects, and clubs they join. It works on all smart phones and makes it easy to communicate with multiple groups on one cohesive platform.
GroupMe also allows you to take polls, send photos, and schedule events on a calendar.
Venmo. Many students repay each other through the app Venmo. It makes it easy to request or pay someone in seconds. Before coming to campus, it may help to connect your bank account information with the app, so that it is ready to use when you need it.
