The Armstrong Student Center East Wing, where Culler Hall was previously located, has been renovated and will be fully open and operational for Fall 2017. The building will also be “hallway and bathroom ready” in time for summer orientation.
The East Wing connects to the existing center through a two-story atrium. The new East Wing will serve as home to many large meeting spaces and centralized student services.
Get a sneak peek below of the impressive new East Wing additions:
Café Lux
This coffee shop and café was inspired by the John E. Dolibois Center in Luxembourg. Coffee, bagels, and possibly even sandwiches will be available. In addition to the main area of Café Lux, there will be a lounge area with a fireplace and photos of Luxembourg.
Red Zone
The Red Zone is complete with large big screen TVs, pool tables, air hockey, and foosball! It will provide a space for students to watch Miami Athletics or play billiards with friends. Concession style food will be available as a dining option. We can imagine this will be popular spot to “just hang out” on the weekends!
The coolest part? Some of the bleachers and gymnasion floor from Withrow were incorporated into the design!
Career Center
Big changes ahead! Career Services has undergone a name change – now the Center for Career Exploration and Success (or Career Center for short) – AND they will make the move from Hoyt Hall to Armstrong East Wing. The new location is much more visible and accessible for all students to utilize. It features several mock interview rooms as well as space for workshops and seminars.
Joslin Senate Chamber
Associated Student Government (ASG) will find its new meeting space in the East Wing. The 88-seat auditorium style chamber will provide crucial meeting space for ASG and other large student organizations. Microphones and voting systems are built into the tables.
Meeting Rooms
East Wing will have 8 large-group meeting rooms that provide much needed flexible spaces for smaller events and meetings.
Brick & Ivy Supplies
The bookstore will have an extension shop on the main floor of the East Wing, specializing in school supplies. This will be a great place for students to pick up last minute pens/pencils, folders, notebooks, and so much more!
We hope you’ll check out the East Wing of the Armstrong when it officially opens this fall!
