Every semester, Miami provides Admissions with a list of courses that prospective students (and sometimes, their parents) can attend. We encourage you to consider whether you’d be willing to allow guests in your courses this spring semester. If you are willing to do so, please complete the Google doc entering the requested courses information. Please make sure that the Google doc is on the CAS tab when entering your information.

Can prospective students visit your class this fall?
This fall, CAS is once again providing Admissions with a list of fall semester courses that prospective students can attend. If you are willing to allow guests to visit your courses this fall, can you please add your course to this Google sheet to indicate its availability? Thanks!
Volunteer needed for diversity recruitment event
The dean’s office is looking for a volunteer for the RedHawk Overnight Event to be held at the Art Museum–no, you do NOT need to spend the night. From Ted Peters:
This is a diversity recruitment event the evening of Sunday, April 8th. We have been told to expect up to 25 students who are interested in CAS; however, we won’t know what majors they are interested in until a week before the event.
I know this is a Sunday night, but Chris and I ask that you find a tentative volunteer from your department and then we can let you know if you have any potential majors signed up to attend. Many departments won’t need to be on in attendance, but we’d like to be covered just in case.
Please let me know if you are able to cover this in case we have interested students. Theoretically I can do this if nobody is available but I’m hoping that one of you living in Oxford might be willing.
Visitors to your classes?
College visitation season is upon us, and many prospective students desire to visit classes while they are on campus. The Office of Admission has asked us to provide a list of spring semester courses that prospective students can visit. If you are willing to allow visitors to any of your courses this semester, please add them directly to this Google Sheet. Please make sure that it is on the CAS tab (the one with AAA 201 as the example). Note that you are able to include comments, constraints, unavailable dates, etc. in addition to the course information.
Please help to Make It Miami!
Once again, it will soon be time for the Make It Miami recruitment events for prospective students. Ted Peters in the dean’s office is asking for faculty volunteers from each department for academic exploration sessions to be held in Armstrong, 11:30 – 12:15, on several Mondays and Fridays through April. If you are willing and able to contribute, please enter your name directly on this spreadsheet as soon as possible.
Two requests from CAS and Admissions
From Ted Peters, Asst. Dean in CAS, regarding some need for faculty to help with recruitment efforts. First, they are looking for instructors willing to allow prospective students to attend a class. If you might consider allowing an occasional guest in your class, please enter it directly in the Google Sheet here. They are also looking for faculty willing to sit on panels during recruitment days; he writes:
The Office of Admissions is seeking one faculty representatives from each academic division to serve on panels for the following events this fall semester. Participants will be asked to respond to questions asked by students and/or admissions staff; there is nothing faculty need to prepare beforehand. Admissions will likely ask panelists to address two questions: 1) what’s special/unique about Miami?; and 2) What advice do you have for prospective students about being successful in this environment?
