-It could be the best decision of your undergraduate career-

  1. You will become an amazing candidate for any job

  1. You will feel more connected with Miami

Surprise! Getting a job on campus will help you to find a stronger connection to the campus community. Plus, you will learn SO much about Miami University and its resources throughout SOUL training. The information you learn will help you navigate your own Miami experience and help first-year students at the same time!

  1. You will laugh harder than you ever thought you could

As a SOUL you will work with your 23 co-workers every day and sometimes ALL DAY! The teammates, inside jokes, and true friendships you will find in this job are hard to imagine unless you have gone through the process! We can promise you amazing memories and new buddies.

Two people talking together

  1. You will build confidence when speaking in front of a group

With about 200 students and their families at each orientation session, you can bet that you’ll gain experience talking in front of a large group! Each orientation, you will formally introduce yourself and perform a vignette. You will also get to lead important small group discussions with your peers. Nervous? Don’t worry. You will be ready to take these steps once you complete SOUL training.

  1. You will improve time management skills

Throughout SOUL, you operate on SOULtime, which means that you arrive 5 minutes early to any event, meeting, training, or obligation. This encourages you to plan ahead and focus on what is happening next. This skill will be useful in ANY future job.

  1. You will have the opportunity to make a difference

Think about when you entered your first year at Miami. You were probably nervous, anxious, and excited. SOULs get the chance to help students through all of those worries by explaining what it’s really like to be a student at Miami. Your students will truly appreciate your support and they will remember what you did for them!

Fall, winter, and spring in oxford are marvelous, BUT you have not experienced beauty in Oxford until you live here for the summer. You can explore the nature trails on the weekends, experience a short line at Chipotle (WHAT!), and feel excitement in the air when an orientation session begins!

How often do you have the opportunity to focus on your dreams and goals? SOUL gives students the chance to discover and sharpen their own unique skill set. You can take opportunities that are in line with your goals, and your entire team will be cheering for you from beginning to end!

  1. You will earn $3,000 plus a room and meals

As if gaining new friendships, a stronger leadership style, time management skills, and more aren’t enough, you also earn $3,000 and are given a residence hall room and meal plan throughout summer training and orientation.

  1. You will make friends who will continue to support you post-SOUL

The relationships you make with the SOUL team and your mentor will last much longer than SOUL.
