Housing
Q: Housing registration tips?
A: Here’s an Insta post from @MiamiOH_ResLife outlining the process!
Q: If we don’t have roomate preferences, do we just pick our preferred room?
A: If the student is a rising sophomore and they do not have a preferred roommate, they just pick their preferred room during the room selection process that is currently taking place this week, and the other vacant space will be taken by someone else who also does not have a roommate.
Q: Do I still have to apply for housing if I’m an RA?
A: If you’ll be an RA next year, you do not have to apply for housing. You’ll have to sign a housing contract, but that usually happens in the summer. Email [email protected] with questions!
Q: Are there washer/ dryers on each floor? Are they HE? Do they accept pods?
A: Just one laundry room per hall (typically first floor/basement). Yep, high efficiency. Yes, you can use pods!
Q: How do I pay for laundry?
A: Laundry all goes through MuLaa; no other forms of payment accepted! To do laundry on campus, students must use the CSC GO App.
Q: How do people find roommates to live with off campus? When should I sign a lease by?
A: Many students will sign a lease first year, but an equal (or even more) people will wait until their sophomore year – so no rush! Use your networks to look for roommates, ask around, post on social, and there are some Miami/Oxford housing websites/Facebook groups that may help as well!
Q: Do we really have to worry about junior year off-campus housing as freshmen?
A: No, you do not. Many students will sign a lease their first year (our best guess is about a third), but most wait until at least their sophomore year. There is so much to consider when you sign a lease. Are you sure you won’t be studying abroad? Are you sure you’ll want to be roommates with those people in a year and a half? Are you sure no one will transfer or graduate early or take a semester off? Also, a lease is a legally-binding document – you can just get out of it if something comes up. Take your time before you sign a lease!
Q: Where can we buy the S-hooks to hang stuff up in our dorms?
A: Most hardware stores (including those locally) will have them. They are often called “moulding hooks” – check out the S-Hook Pinterest board for pictures!
Q: Are all beds lofted in Anderson Hall?
A: Most of the beds are “lofted” in all the halls (except Emerson and Tappan). “Lofted” means the beds are raised about 3 feet to fit a dresser or bookshelf under. You can choose to do bunk beds instead and un-loft them!
Q: If in a triple, do you recommend someone bringing another fridge?
A: No, you are not permitted to bring an extra fridge. Miami provides 2 fridges in triples and quads.
Q: Do I need to bring curtains?
A: No, all windows come with blinds/shades. Some students bring a tension rod and curtains, but it’s not a necessity!
Q: Can I fit a TV in my dorm room?
A: Yes, a reasonably sized TV should fit. Most students seem to use laptops to watch TV.
Q: How will I know/meet/find their RA?
A: Students should receive an email from their RA before move-in. They will introduce themselves and give students some necessary information for moving in!
Q: Where can I post my apartment if it’s available for a sublease off campus?
A: There are some listing services (Google “miamioh off campus housing” to find a few options) that will allow you to post a sublet option. Try FB groups as well!
Q: Are there water fountains to fill water bottles in the residence halls?
A: All halls have regular water fountains. Most standard room halls have at least one water bottle filling station. Traditional halls do not. You can also find filling stations all over campus, including Armstrong Student Center!
Q: Where’s a list where we can find everything needed for our dorms?
A: There is a lot of information on what to bring at this site.
Q: Do the kitchens in the residence halls have cookware (pots, pans, etc.)?
A: Hall kitchens typically have pots, pans, cooking utensils, and cookie sheets. If you’d like additional items in your community kitchen, work with your CLT to get them purchased for the hall.
Q: Are there printers in the residence halls to use? Are they free?
A: No, but there are printers in the Armstrong Student Center, the libraries, and a few other locations around campus. They are pay-to-print!

Transportation
Q: How do we find the shuttle routes and what time they run?
A: The BCRTA runs our bus system, and their website has a ton of info, including maps, times, a live bus tracker, and more! We also have an updated blog post on how to navigate the new system.
Q: If we won’t have a car freshman year, is the bus system free, or do we have to pay for that?
A: The bus is free!
Q: How do shuttles work if you are a commuting student? Also, are there any commuting stands?
A: The Commuter Center did a Reel on riding the bus a couple of weeks ago – check it out!
Q: Are there any shuttle buses from Cincinnati airport to Oxford?
A: There are shuttles around breaks to and from the Cincinnati airport around Thanksgiving, winter break, and spring break!
