Your first year away at college is a huge change in your life and I’m sure you’re so excited (and maybe a little nervous)! You will be living in the dorms, meeting new people, taking interesting classes, and doing activities on your own time. The college “freedom” is something you should definitely look forward to, but first, make sure you set yourself up for success this summer. There are a couple of deadlines you need to meet to have a smooth transition into your first semester!
DUE AUGUST 1: Immunization Records and Waive/Enroll Student Health Insurance
All Miami Oxford students are required to have a number of vaccines before fall semester begins. In order to successfully submit the vaccination documentation to the university, there are two forms you must complete due August 1. One you’ll need to send to your doctor to have them complete, and the other is the form to upload the signed/completed form from your doctor. There is also an option to request an exemption from one or more if need be.
Miami also requires all students to have some form of student health insurance, whether that be through the school or your provider at home. You will automatically be charged for the university’s health care plan if you do not waive the insurance (and submit proof of alternative insurance) by August 1.
DUE AUGUST 10: Fall Semester Tuition Bill
Your fall semester bill became available on July 12 through your One Stop account. You can find your payment breakdown and billing options there as well. Your fall payment is due August 10.Be sure to check out payment plan options if you are interested.
DUE AUGUST 15: Wellness Modules
All incoming and transfer Miami students are required to complete three online educational modules before attending class in the fall. These include:
- AlcoholEdu for College
- Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for Students
These courses became available to you on July 20 through your Orientation Canvas page. The first part of these modules is due on August 15. If you do not complete these courses, you will be subject to an academic hold, meaning you will be unable to register or change your classes.
Part 2 of these modules will be released via email 45 days after you complete Part 1, but no later than October 6.
ROLLING DEADLINES: Pre-Semester Programs
Miami Bound programs are a great way for you to meet other students with similar interests! You get the chance to come to campus and start engaging with all that Miami has to offer prior to your big move-in day in August. There are 19 programs you can choose from, and although they are entirely optional, it provides a head start to getting involved! Check out what might sound interesting to you and be sure to pay attention to the rolling deadlines for registration.
That may seem like a lot to take in, but it’s all necessary for a successful start to your first year at Miami. We can’t wait to see you all in the fall!
