If it feels like the last four years have flown by, these last two weeks will be over before you know it. As a senior you spend a lot of time reflecting on your college experience and reminiscing on all the wonderful things you’ve done and people you have met. So let’s turn that reminiscing into action! Here are some things to do in your last few weeks to make the most of the time you have left at Miami.
Get in Moving Shape
Those boxes aren’t going to move themselves after graduation. Get your workout on at Graduate Send-Off Bootcamp on Saturday, May 7 from 10-11 a.m. at Lewis Place with President and Renate Crawford. The event will be open to all students, faculty, staff, and community members with a focus on sending off graduating students. It has been two years since the last MOVE bootcamp and for many of us seniors it will be nostalgic to go one last time.
Graduate Open House
On Saturday, May 7 from 1-3 p.m., President and Dr. Crawford will be opening their home to all seniors who want to come to say hello, take graduation pictures with them or with the dogs in their graduation gown, and see Lewis Place. Lots of Miami swag and cookies are ready for the taking.
Take Grad Photos
Make a list of five places on campus or in Oxford that were memorable or special to your time at Miami, put on your cap and gown, and head out to take some photos. Some ideas of places to go are your first year residence hall, where you played a club or intramural sport, or the building that houses your major. Check out our list of most Instagrammable spots on campus, and our tips for grad photos for more ideas!
Decorate your Grad Cap
Let your creative juices flow and personalize your graduation cap before the big ceremony. We also recommend gathering your roommates to participate in this activity, so you can appreciate each other’s company. If you are looking for inspiration on decorating your Grad Cap, check out our blog post on this topic.
Step on the Seal
We all know this tradition and have carefully avoided stepping on the Seal when walking across campus. I remember being advised during orientation about the consequences of sleeping through an exam and failing it if I didn’t avoid this sacred spot. After our last finals, however, this will no longer be the case and the tradition becomes triumphantly and confidently walking on the seal.
Just be careful if you plan on attending grad school at Miami. I’m not sure if you want to take that risk….
Eat in the Dining Hall One. Last. Time.
Meal planning, grocery shopping, cooking, and clean-up are all a part of our off-campus routines. Take a night off from this and enjoy a carefree meal in the dining hall. Try going to your favorite spot from first year and see if your favorite foods then are still your favorite now.
Try Somewhere New Uptown
If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably frequented the same five restaurants uptown for the last four years. Before you graduate, try eating at a spot uptown that you may have never been to before or haven’t tried in a while. Especially the local restaurants you can’t get outside of Oxford.
Make a Plan to Stay Connected After Graduation
As we all walk across the stage and into new phases of our lives, we don’t want to forget those who we shared this experience with. Make a plan with your friends on how you will all stay in touch as you go your separate ways. Maybe even make plans to come back to Miami for a Hockey Game or Alumni Weekend.
