As you have returned to campus you probably noticed an abundance of red fencing and the sounds of construction. Miami’s campus is growing with the construction of two new academic buildings (the first since the Farmer School of Business was built in 2009!) and an indoor equestrian center. Here is a peek into what is coming to campus.

Clinical Health Sciences and Wellness facility

The new Clinical Health Sciences and Wellness facility is currently under construction. The 165,000 square foot building is scheduled to be completed by summer 2023. It will house Miami’s new Master of Medical Science/Physician Associate studies program, the department of speech pathology and audiology and the Oxford cohort of the BSN nursing program. The clinics wing will house the Employee and Student Health Centers, the Student Counseling Service, Office of Student Wellness, and the Speech and Hearing Clinic. The new building is located on S Campus Ave. across from Goggin Ice Center.

Indoor Equestrian Center

The Indoor Equestrian Center construction is nearly complete and it is scheduled to open this summer. The 125-by-250 square foot riding surface within the arena will allow for year-round educational and outreach programming for the university community and year-round training for the club equestrian team and academic classes. The indoor arena, which broke ground in November 2020, is funded by donor gifts to the equestrian facility fund. The facility will be used by the more than 400 students each semester for a two credit-hour sport leadership and management class, the nationally-recognized club equestrian team (100+ members), and hundreds of children who participate in the K-12 outreach programs each year.

Richard M. McVey Data Science Building

Miami broke ground this fall on the Richard M. McVey Data Science Building, an 87,000-square-foot space located along Tallawanda Road near Withrow and Benton Halls. The building should be open in January 2024. This academic building will be the new home to Emerging Technology in Business and Design, Statistics, Computer Science and Software Engineering, the Armstrong Institute for Interactive Media Studies, and the Center for Analytics and Data Science departments.

So next time you are walking around campus, look to see the newest wave of Miami’s innovation rising up all around you. And if you are a first year student get excited to see these buildings completed in your time at Miami!
