B57-P: NBA G-League Queen City Royals Market Analysis

In order to assist Cincinnati Global Chamber to understand the community interests of having an NBA G-league team (Queen City Royals) in the Greater Cincinnati area. This research is conducted to understand the community’s interests and help them understand the potential market for a professional basketball team. Convenience sampling was used in this study. We have received 548 responses from this study. Previous research (e.g. Lock, Taylor, & Darcy, 2011) showed that it is very important to develop team identification when a new team is being introduced to the local community. Edila and James (2018) revealed that there are a number of factors impacting fan’s team identification which include location, interest in the game, team results, and star players on the team. Based on previous literature and the request of the client, the survey includes 2 demographic items, 5 items measuring fans’ interests in having professional teams in the Greater Cincinnati area; 8 items examining their media interests. The results showed that male participants are likely to support the team compared to female participants. Also, they are more likely to attend the match during the pandemic and after the pandemic than female counterparts. In addition, we found that participants age between 31-40 are more interested in supporting the team and purchasing the ticket plan than other age groups.
