C89: American Opioid Crisis: An Assay of Opioid Addiction and Treatment

Opioid use disorder is a widespread issue in the United States in need of immediate attention. Over 11.5 million Americans reported having misused opioids in 2016, typically to alleviate chronic pain. By misuse or submission to said pain, people are suffering. Misuse causes addiction, and treatments are sparse, expensive, and sometimes dangerous. It is imperative that the public develop an understanding of opioid addiction’s chemical and societal roots, else the suffering it causes may never be brought to heel. More of the medications mentioned in this poster should be researched, produced, and distributed. This poster provides an overview of the American Opioid Crisis, as well as some proposed future treatments.
