Advice from Miami Students

Before the end of Spring semester, we asked current Miami students in an Instagram Story what advice they had for incoming students. We have compiled their best advice here.
Involvement

- Go to Mega Fair!!
- Get Involved!
- There is more to do at Miami than partying.
- Join a club that’s out of your comfort zone.
- Join clubs! They are a great way to meet people, and there is a club for everything!
- Don’t be afraid to try new things!
- RUSH!!
- Get involved, the busier you are, the better you do in classes!
Friendship
- You won’t meet all your best friends in welcome week and that’s 1,000% okay!
- Talk to people! Make friends!
- Make a friend in every class and exchange numbers!
- Ya don’t have to drink alcohol to have fun or make friends at Miami
Preparation
- Download CBORD Mobile ID so you don’t get locked out of your room
- Bring an umbrella, rain boots, and a raincoat because it’s not just regular rain here.
- STUDY ABROAD!!!! Start planning early so you have the most options 👍😃
- Print out a map of campus for when you first get here!
Meal Plan
- It’s okay to change your meal plan, make sure you are using all the swipes.
- Appreciate all home cooked meals before you leave

Life
- Embrace change, learn to be vulnerable, and work hard, but don’t forget to take care of yourself!
- Don’t be so hard on yourself! The first semester is always a learning experience!
- When opportunity knocks, don’t shut it down!
- Time management is key in college
Support
- Get help if you need it! First semester away from home can be rough!
- Talk to your RA – They’re a valuable resource of information, friendship, and guidance.
- Your first year might be rough, but you will work through it. Don’t get discouraged!
