Herbert Leupin, Swissair, 1949

With innovations in air travel, global tourism soared. Airplanes provided faster international travel for greater numbers and rapidly made the world smaller. One of the leaders in European air travel, Swissair was established in March 1931 from a merger of two other Swiss airlines.Due to the signs of growing conflict in Europe, Swissair suspended all operations from August 1939 until the war’s end in September 1945. With travel restrictions lifted, new technologies were explored to revolutionize civil aviation. In 1949, Swissair expanded flights to include the continental U.S., the same year this poster was printed.
