Beth Loftus talk scheduled for March 7

Dr. Elizabeth Loftus, Univ. of California at Irvine, will be presenting her talk entitled, “The Fiction of Memory,” on Monday, March 7, 2022, at 7 p.m. on zoom. Loftus’s pioneering work over several decades has explored the fallibility of memory and people’s susceptibility to contextual factors that systematically alter recall of events.

Here is a blurb for her talk: Nationally, roughly two-thirds of DNA-based exonerations of wrongfully convicted persons involve misidentification of perpetrators by eyewitnesses. In this lecture, Elizabeth Loftus, recently described by the New Yorker as “the most influential female psychologist of the twentieth century,” will discuss the state of knowledge regarding eyewitness misidentification and the implications for criminal justice policy and practices.

Dr. Loftus’s lecture is part of the lecture series, entitled the “Dialogues on Democracy” series, that Miami’s Menard Family Center for Democracy is sponsoring again this spring semester. Faculty, staff, and students are invited to intend, but pre-registration is required:

Clinical program reaccredited by APA until 2031!

Following a successful review process (including extensive documentation, a virtual April site visit, and responses to follow-up queries), we are pleased to announce that our doctoral program in Clinical Psychology was reaccredited by the American Psychology Association until 2031. Having a 10-year accreditation outcome is an outstanding achievement, reflecting the hard work of the faculty, staff, and students of our clinical program, especially Director of Clinical Training Aaron Luebbe. We are so pleased about this well-deserved outcome and very proud of the clinical program and the hard work required to make this accreditation process so successful! Thanks to Aaron and everyone involved!
