Additional BannerWeb Finance links upgraded to Banner 9 Self Service today

On Monday, Dec. 19, more links in BannerWeb were redirected to their counterparts in Banner 9 Self Service.

At 8:30 a.m., additional BannerWeb Finance links were redirected to Banner 9 Self Service. This means the pages were officially upgraded and replaced with Banner 9 Self Service.

The good news is that accessing these new pages will not change much for you. They will still be accessed from the main BannerWeb menu the same way they always have – when you click on the links, they will simply redirect you to the new pages in Banner 9 Self Service.

For more information and ongoing updates about the exciting upgrade to Banner 9 Self-Service, don’t forget to subscribe to this project blog.

Inadvertent Direct Deposit update message sent to Miami employees

Every December and June we copy production data into our TEST and DEVL environments. This past weekend was our first such copy since implementing the new Banner 9 Self Service baseline functionality to email notify people when their Payroll or Accounts Payable direct deposit info is changed.

After copying production data into DEVL and TEST, for security purposes, we put fake routing and account numbers in place of all the actual direct deposit info.

The refresh itself did NOT trigger the emails. The act of putting in fake routing and account numbers caused the sending of tens of thousands of emails notifying people that their direct deposit info was changed. It was only changed in our DEVL environment.

Before running that same data scramble script in TEST, IT Services was able to disable the table triggers in TEST to prevent sending a second email to all of the same people. We have also updated the refresh documentation noting this issue and the need to disable those triggers in DEVL and TEST.

The refresh did wipe out the email content differences in DEVL and TEST that would have clearly indicated which environment the email came from prior to Banner 9 Self Service. Miami had a piece of custom code in BannerWeb that notified people when their Direct Deposit info was changed through the BannerWeb page.

It is important to note that NO production data was changed.

November 28 Project Update

Welcome back from the Thanksgiving holiday. We hope that you had a relaxing and enjoyable one. Last week was short, yet progress continues as we march forward toward the end of the year.

We have engaged a consultant to assist with deploying Banner 9 Self Service Benefits for New Hires and Open Enrollment, which we expect to have available by the end of March 2023.

Salary Planner will be made available in Banner 9 Self Service in the early part of 2023.

We welcome any questions or comments you may have on the various functions that will be available within Banner 9 Self Service.

Much appreciation to the entire project team and the university community for supporting our efforts. We’ve done a lot and still have more to go – but it is gratifying to recognize how far we’ve come.

November 21 Project Update

Almost Thanksgiving… and we are grateful.

What was done this week:
As of November 16, these BannerWeb pages are upgraded and replaced with Banner 9 Self Service:

Employee Services Online menu

  • Leave Reporting
  • Leave Balances

Pay Information submenu

  • Deduction History
  • Pay Stub
  • Earnings History

Benefit and Deduction Information submenu

  • Medical and Dental Benefits
  • Flexible Spending Accounts
  • Other Benefits and Deductions
  • Retirement Plans
  • Miscellaneous Employee Data

Direct Deposit – with training videos and associated job aids being made available. There is direct access from MiamiOH.edu/DirectDeposit.

The good news is that accessing these new pages will not change much for you. They will still be accessed from the main BannerWeb menu the same way they always have.
We are in the process of developing some training materials that we hope will help ease the transition. These materials offer guidance for a variety of learning styles via short instructional graphics, detailed step-by-step instructions, and how-to videos. All of the guides we are developing have the purpose of answering most “how-to” questions.
There are additional modules that are currently available in Banner 9 Self Service as well. These include the following (with a link to the actual tool):

One of the other nice features of Banner 9 Self Service is that it supports preferred names, which is a change from the previous version. This means when you are logged in, you will see your preferred name shown at the top of the screens.

We welcome any questions or comments you may have on the various functions that will be available within Banner 9 Self Service.

Much appreciation to the entire project team and the University community for supporting our efforts. We’ve done a lot and still have more to go – but it is gratifying to recognize how far we’ve come.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday – enjoy your family and friends, be safe, and have fun!
