TLDR: Our licensed vendors have signed an agreement to use Miami’s brand; with this agreement they are required to use Miami’s marks and logos properly. If an unlicensed vendor uses our logos, we do not have visibility or control on the use of the Miami brand before it is produced.

In Trademarks and Licensing there are three P’s: Protection, Promotion, and Profit.

Protection

Protect the reputation of the university by ensuring that only approved representations of the university’s brand appear before the public and that goods bearing these marks are made responsibly.

Promotion

Promote the university’s brand in a consistent manner through the use of officially licensed vendors and quality products. Licensed products bearing logos and graphics that are of quality and excellence play a major role in recruiting students and faculty, garnering alumni support, and establishing a distinction among schools.

Profit

Generate revenue through the sale of officially licensed merchandise. All revenue funds student scholarships.

By working with our licensed vendors you not only ensure that our brand is represented in an approved way, but you are also providing funds for current and future students.

UCM is constantly working to make sure that all of our licensed vendors are following our expectations on quality, production and sourcing, and how the brand is presented. UCM has also invested in an additional system through the company Counterfind that allows us to take down counterfeit goods in a more efficient way.

If you have any questions or want to report potentially counterfeit goods, feel free to reach out to [email protected]
