I played ultimate werewolf, a roleplaying game. It reminded me a lot of mafia or poison dart frog, which were not my favorite games, but it depends who you play with. In the game everyone was assigned a character, but no one else knew who you were unless you were a werewolf and you knew who the other werewolves were. In the night the werewolves would choose someone to kill and when you woke up everyone had to vote who they thought a werewolf may be. It was very challenging at the beginning because we did not know a lot of the people, so in real life we did not know who to trust let alone in the game. At the beginning I was a follower and chose based on who others were voting out because I did not fully understand the game. The people voted out were usually the leaders in discussion and which were typically not the werewolves. Once it dwindled down I led some conversations, but got killed at the end by the hunter who did not fully understand the game and the werewolves won!
Personally, I did not love the game. I like games with strategy and did not love the group vote aspect, especially when I felt I was not being listened to. I did enjoy making it far in the game because it opened up more conversations and more opportunities for leadership from more people without being instantly voted out. At the beginning of the game the people that were leaders were more of a sacrifice to move along the game.
The game was about conversation and being social which is not always my strong suit when doing something new. I did however meet a friend who made me feel more comfortable during the group conversations about trusting my gut independently rather than being a follower which is why I lasted as long as I did. In my personal life I feel like my friends Signe and Layla would love this game. Every year since 4th grade for their birthday we would like 10 rounds of Mafia and poison dart frog. Layla was always the storyteller, so she would enjoy observing the chaos of the group voting.
