GOTW: Time Stories Week 2

Miami University

For this week, we completed the Time Stories game and picked up where we left off last week. The game was a little easier to understand this time around, and using the notes that we took from last week helped us remember the decisions we had made and the clues that we had found. Also, because we were playing with the same group of people from last week, we were a little more familiar with one another, which also helped each member with areas they might have been struggling with. I personally benefited from the help that other players offered, and it made the game more enjoyable.

At the end of the game, we had a group discussion about the game, the things we enjoyed, and how the complexity affected how we played the game. Leadership, in the game, was demonstrated by how well any member was able to lead or guide the entire group towards a specific decision, and accepting the outcome of those decisions as a group, no matter what those outcomes looked like. For example, the game ended for us because we made a decision that led to us failing the mission. We were able to trace our steps back to understand where we went wrong. Overall, the game was very complex, as we had no guidelines on what steps to take and simply had to trust our deliberations as a team to move forward.

A group of really close friends would enjoy this game, and maybe someone who has played the game or a similar one to help everyone else understand the goal of the game. It was a fun time once we eventually understood what to do, although we were still confused by certain aspects and just had to go off what we understood.
