In week 2, we learned about game mechanics. For the first half of class, we went through a slide deck of all the mechanics that were known in games, for the most part. I recognized some of these mechanics, and just never identified them as mechanics. I think it was cool to see all the different mechanics that are displayed in within these games because then we got to practice them.
After learning the mechanics, the class broke up into our own groups and chose the respected game each group decided on. For my group, we picked up “The Gang” card game. This game was basically a co-operative version of poker/ Texas Hold ‘Em. Because of the short time we had, and a little confusion of the rules, I decided to just lead a little mini poker game for our group. The hardest part about this was teaching somer of the guys how play because poker is based off of strategy and hand management. I think I displayed a good amount of leadership in this scenario because I was able to make sure the game ran smoothly, bye being the dealer, and helping guys play their hands.
I enjoyed this game session/week because it was really laid back and got to know some of the guys in class. Looking forward, next time we get a chance and have more time, I would like to learn “The Gang” because it seemed like a team version of poker and I think that would be fun with a group of guys that know how to play it.
