Move your car from Millett lot this Friday

Please move your car on Friday for Miami’s Home Football Game on Saturday.

The West Millett parking lot must be clear of all vehicles by 3:00 pm on Friday, Sept 13 for this weekend’s home football game against the UC Cincinnati Bearcats.

The commuter section of Millett lot needs to be empty beginning at 6 am on Friday except for the three rows south of the sidewalk path that divides the lot (see map). All other cars parked in the Commuter section will be cited and towed at 6 am since this area is reserved for tailgating RVs.

The residential section of Millett lot needs to be empty by 3 pm Friday or risk citation at 3 pm.

So where can I park?

Beginning at 10 am on Friday any vehicle may park:

  • Outside of dorms or academic buildings in red-permit lots throughout campus, Friday at 10am to Monday at 7am
  • In available spaces in the Ditmer and Chestnut lots, Friday at 10am to Monday at 7am
  • Off-campus on Oxford streets that do not have meters or require permits

Note that:

  • The Heritage Commons lots are still reserved for Heritage Commons residents only.
  • Student vehicles may return to West Millett Lot after 10 pm on Saturday or at any time on Sunday.
  • Student vehicles parked in red permit areas for the weekend must be moved by 7 am Monday.

Parking for Move-In Week

We are excited to welcome students and families back to campus this week! Parking permits are not required for move-in week (August 19 through August 25). While no permit is required, drivers may not park on lawns, block fire hydrants, use ADA spaces without appropriate ADA placards, etc.

Permits will be required again starting at 7:00 am on Monday August 26.

For families moving their student in, please follow the signs for item drop off, unload the car as quickly as possible and then move your car away from the residence halls and return on foot to arrange your student’s room. That will help ensure that traffic keeps flowing and everyone can unload as quickly and conveniently as possible! Additional move-in information can be found here.

Important Parking System Notice

We are upgrading our parking permit management software and temporarily cannot sell permits. We anticipate the new system to be available for permit purchases beginning on Monday July 8. Please check back for more updates.

During this time:

  • No permit is required to park on campus from now until 7am on Monday July 8. While no permit is required, citations will still be issued for drivers parked outside of designated parking spaces, fire hydrants, ADA spaces without appropriate ADA placards, etc.
  • Commuting Students may park in the commuter lots at Millett and Chestnut without buying a daily commuter permit.
  • Visitors/faculty/staff who ordinarily buy daily red permits should park in one of Miami’s Parking garages, or within any surface lot parking space that is not marked as otherwise restricted.
  • Students who buy weekly permits for Millett Lot may park in the residential section of Millett lot without a permit.

Alumni Weekend Parking

There is free parking on Miami University’s streets and parking lots for Alumni Weekend, Thursday June 6 to Monday, June 10 at 7 am – no permit or no parking meter payments necessary. Please note that parking meters belonging to the City of Oxford, such as Campus Ave and throughout Uptown, will require payment through 8 pm (free parking on Sunday).

Please abide by all city, state, and federal laws and follow the regulations posted for accessible parking, emergency lanes, and parking meters.

Important Reminder! You will need a state-issued permit to park in handicap-accessible parking spaces. Neither Miami University nor the City of Oxford can issue these permits.
Cars in violation of parking rules may be ticketed.

ShareFest 2024/Chestnut Fields Parking Restrictions

The email below was sent to all Chestnut Fields Parking Permit holders on 5/7/24 making them aware of the upcoming parking restrictions in the Chestnut Fields parking lot.

Parking Restriction May 15-21
ShareFest is an annual collection drive which accepts good-condition and reusable furniture, housewares, clothing, and non-perishable food from Miami University students and Oxford residents. Once again this year, ShareFest is basing its collection operations in the Chestnut Fields parking lot which will require a number of parking spaces to accommodate them.

If your car is parked in one of the highlighted areas below please move it before Wednesday, May 15th at 7 am so the semi trucks can be positioned. Cars parked in the yellow area after 7 am on Wednesday May 15th will be cited and towed out of the area at the owner’s expense.

Alternative parking options include: The empty spaces on the west side of the lot, Millett West parking lot, and starting Saturday you may park in red permit areas throughout campus until the end of the semester since Miami does not enforce permit restrictions during move-out week so parents can pick up their students. (Meters and garages still require payment.)

Spring Break Parking Reminders

The email below was sent to residence hall students today regarding spring break parking.

Resident,

Students with parking permits who are staying on campus over Spring Break may park in red permit spaces from Friday, March 22 through Monday, April 1st at 7 am.

Parents often send students back to campus with a car after Spring Break for the remainder of the semester. If this happens to you, here’s what you need to know:

*A permit is required to park in University parking lots or drives at all times.
*One-week yellow temporary permits may be purchased online through your student account in the online parking portal or in the Campus Services Center for $15 per week.
*You will need to buy six one-week permits. (You may not purchase one six-week permit, but you can buy the six permits one immediately after the other.)
*These are electronic permits based on your license plate, there is nothing to print out. *Enter your license plate correctly (do not guess).
*Park in the residential section of the Millett West Parking lot shown in yellow in the upper right corner of this online Miami parking map.
*Do not park in the section with signs saying “Commuter permits only” since this section does not allow overnight parking.
*These student yellow permits allow parking throughout campus after 6 pm weekdays and all day on weekends but your vehicle must be back in the Millett West lot by 7 am on weekdays or risk being cited.

Winter Break 2023-24 Parking Guide

Parking Permits Required
A permit is required to park in a University parking lot or on a University drive at all times. Fall parking permits are valid through the first day of spring semester, and spring semester parking permits are on sale and are valid Dec 10 to May 15.

For Winter Break and Winter Term (Dec 15 at 7 am to Jan 29th at 7 am): Cars with yellow permits may park in red-permitted lots and roadways, provided that the signs do not say “Red permits only at all times” (ie the Hepburn and Roudebush lots).

Leaving your car in Oxford over winter break?
Student vehicles with a valid parking permit (blue or yellow) may leave their cars in the west Millett, Ditmer or Chestnut Fields lots over the winter break and J-term. When parking in these lots, do not park where signs indicate “No overnight parking”.

Please consult the parking map or call the Campus Services Center if you are unsure of where to park over break.

Garage vehicle storage also available over winter
If you wish to leave your car in a covered garage for Winter Break & Winter Term, spaces will be available in the North parking garage (by the Engineering Building) for vehicle storage. If you already have a garage permit you do not need to purchase this additional access. If you do not have a garage permit you may purchase this option with or without a yellow permit. This option costs $160 for the winter break/term. Please call, email or stop by the Campus Services Center to have this access added to your ID card.

Loading and Unloading: How to use the vehicle log-in policy for move out.
If you need to pull up in front of your residence hall at a time when you ordinarily would not be allowed to park there, you may utilize the log-in policy below to load or unload your vehicle to avoid being cited. A valid permit is required to utilize the log-in procedure. Vehicles parked illegally in restricted areas, service drives, yellow zones and loading zones may be cited.

To use the log-in policy, call 513-529-2224 or email parking@miamioh.edu with your name and the location where your vehicle will be parked. You will be granted 20 minutes to load/unload your vehicle from the time you leave a message with the Campus Services Center. If you receive a parking violation during the time you are logged in, contact the Campus Services Center with the ticket number and we will waive it. Students may use this procedure up to 4 times per semester

Oxford prohibits parking on city streets for more than 72 consecutive hours.

Oxford city ordinances prohibit parking on city streets for more than 72 consecutive hours(including streets that pass through campus such as Oak St., Maple St., Patterson Ave., and Tallawanda Rd.). Many Oxford streets are also designated as snow routes where parking is prohibited when snowfall reaches 3 inches or greater. Advise your off-campus friends that they may wish to purchase a parking permit and store their vehicle in west Millett, Ditmer or Chestnut Fields lots over the winter break to avoid fines, immobilization or towing for being parked over 72 hours on a city street
Information about parking in Oxford is available on the city’s Website at: cityofoxford.org/.

BCRTA Transit Service
BCRTA Regional Route R3 will run every two hours from November 26th to January 28th. BCRTA Regional Routes R1, R3 and R4 will NOT operate Christmas Day, but will resume Wednesday, December 27th.

Limited bus service will be available on campus during the winter term, Jan 2 – Jan 28 including the U1W route to Walmart, Kroger & Campus and the P2 Route throughout campus & the perimeter parking lots. See BCRTA’s website at ButlerCountyRTA.com/or call (513) 785-5237 for details.

Have a safe and enjoyable winter break!
