Bringing a car back to Miami after Thanksgiving?

The parking reminder email below was sent to students living on campus who do not currently have a parking permit for fall 2023.

Dear Resident,

Occasionally students who did not already have a car on campus return with one after Thanksgiving break for the remainder of the fall semester. If you are planning to do this, here’s what you need to know:

*A parking permit is required to park on campus at all times.
*You may purchase two one-week permits online for $15 each. Log in to your student parking account, add your license plate & vehicle info, click “buy permits” and scroll down to “Temporary (daily, weekly) permits”. Purchase a one-week for 11/26-12/2 and then purchase the second week 12/3-12/9. (A permit is not required during finals week.) MiamiOH.edu/parking/portal
*These are yellow, residential student permits that will allow parking in the West Millett parking lot 24 hours a day.
*Avoid the Commuter Permits section of Millett lot because it does not allow overnight parking. Review the map in the parking blog to ensure you park in the correct section of the lot.
*The U4 bus visits this lot every 15 minutes so you can catch a ride to and from the lot.
In the evenings and on weekends permitted vehicles may park in the campus core near the residence halls, Rec Center, etc., but you must move your car to Millett West lot by 7 am weekdays or you may get a $75 ticket. See the posted signs around campus for the times those lots allow yellow permit parking.
*If you have a parking permit and need to pull up in front of your dorm to load or unload your car, call or email the Parking Office first and let us know your name, dorm, license plate and time you will be parked there. We will log it into the system and give you 20 minutes to load or unload. If you receive a ticket during that time, let us know, and we will waive it. Contact info below.

Have a great Thanksgiving!

Online parking services not available Aug. 10-13

Miami University’s Parking and Transportation Services will upgrade its parking management system beginning at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10. During that time, online parking services — such as purchasing a parking permit, online citation payments, and submitting appeals of parking citations — will not be available. No Miami University parking permit will be required for on-campus parking during this time.

The new parking management system will be available for public use at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13. The new system will provide greater flexibility for visitor and event parking, provide additional payment options for employees and students, and enhance communication between parking services and our customers. The new parking management system will allow customers to manage more of their parking account online and also allow Miami to adopt new technologies for increased efficiency over the next several years.

Parking Restriction Changes in the Area of Shriver Center

With Miami’s Admission Visit Center relocating to Shriver Center at the beginning of the 2016-17 spring term, a number of changes to parking restrictions will be implemented in the area to accommodate admission visitors to campus. The office of admission conducts two campus tours per day, and parking for visitors is needed close to the Admission Visit Center.

Changes to parking restrictions

Beginning in January 2017, parking in the MacMillan and Shriver west parking lots and Maple St. between Center Dr. and E. Spring St. will be restricted to visitors with an admission office parking permit from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. 7 days a week. After 6 p.m., any vehicle with a valid Miami University parking permit may park in the MacMillan and Shriver west parking lots, and no parking permit is required on Maple St. The disability parking spaces in these areas will not be affected by these restrictions; they remain available to any vehicle bearing a valid Miami University parking permit and state-issued disability placard.

To accommodate short-term parking needs in the area of Shriver Center and Armstrong Student Center, parking meters will be installed on Shriver Circle. These meters will have a 30-minute time limit during peak hours and 2-hour time limit during off-peak hours. Parking meter costs will increase to $2 per hour during peak hours, and $1 per hour off-peak; peak hours are 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday. All parking meters accept coins and credit/debit cards for payment; no parking permit is required to park at a meter and all drivers must pay meter fees for time used.

To offset some of the lost employee parking in the area, the Shriver east parking lot meters will be removed and the lot will be designated for red employee surface lots parking permits from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Nearby parking options available

Employees with red parking permits will be eligible to purchase an unlimited-use garage access card for the south garage on Campus Ave. for $75 for the remainder of the year, a 50% discount over regular cost. Contact the Parking and Transportation Services office to purchase a garage access card.

In addition, there is parking available on Maple St. south of Center Dr. and on Harris Dr. for red permit holders. White permit holders can park in the Harris South lot located off Harris Dr. at the South Chiller Plant.

Butler County RTA offers transit service from the Ditmer Field, Chestnut Fields and west Millett parking lot to various areas of campus on a regular schedule. See BCRTA’s website (www.ButlerCountyRTA.com) for route schedules and maps.

Additional parking resources to be constructed

Miami’s parking and transportation services office is working closely with the planning, architecture and engineering (PAE) office in the physical facilities department to identify additional parking areas to be constructed over summer 2017 to replace the employee parking displaced by the move of the Admission Visit Center. Plans currently include adding approximately 150 new surface parking spaces for employees by reconfiguring existing lots and adding additional lots. Concurrent to this work, PAE is working with a traffic engineering firm to examine ways to improve vehicle and pedestrian traffic campus-wide.

To replace short-term parking spaces lost by the changes in the area of Shriver Center, the southwest corner of the Cook Field parking lot (34 spaces) will have parking meters installed in Summer 2017. The metered spaces will have a 2-hour limit during peak hours and 4-hour limit during off-peak hours. Parking meter costs will be $2 per hour during peak hours, and $1 per hour off-peak; peak hours are 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday. All parking meters accept coins and credit/debit cards for payment; no parking permit is required to park at a meter and all drivers must pay meter fees for time used.

Options to Reduce Parking Costs for Employees

It is time for employees to renew their annual parking permit, 2015-16 parking permits will expire June 30, 2016. Red (employee surface lot) parking permits will increase in price to $125 for 2016-17. Most employees are eligible to have the cost for their parking permit payroll deducted in equal installments throughout the year on a pre-tax basis. To purchase your 2016-17 parking permit, go to the parking services Website (http://www.MiamiOH.edu/parking) and follow the “Permits” link on the left, or stop in the parking office to purchase your new permit.

Miami University recognizes that increasing parking costs can be a burden on employees’ finances, so the Parking and Transportation Services Office offers the following options to help manage parking costs. Continue reading
