Human Resources Update – Dawn Fahner, Associate Vice President of Human Resources

  • Christ and Anthem have negotiated a new contract as of 3-31-23. No effect to our plan or to our members.
  • In August 2022, HR gave employees 2 free vacation days. They also increased the maximum balance that employees could have so that all could take advantage of these additional days. December 31, 2023 HR will be lowering that max balance to the regular limit. For those who haven’t used those days and are sitting at the maximum balance, you will lose them. See the website for specific max balance limits for employees based on years of service.
  • April 26th or 27th is the Workday Kickoff, focusing on the HR and Finance portions first. All can attend.
  • Communication will come out much later this year about yearly raises. Communication typically comes out in April. Due to still waiting on information about the budget from the state, this communication probably won’t be sent out until June.
  • Mental Health and Wellness subcommittees have completed their work and subcommittee reports. Overall committee compiling a report to present to President Crawford at the end of April.
  • A lot of interviewing has been done lately in the HR dept, mainly in the Labor dept. Hopes to have new people to report at our next CPAC meeting.

Approval of Last Meeting Minutes

March minutes were approved – Alicia Miller motioned to approve and Cheryl Chafin seconded. No additions or corrections at this time.

Subcommittee Updates

  • Benefits – Jennifer Fox -No updates to report.
  • Campus Planning – Bonnie Crabtree – All campus projects are on schedule or ahead of schedule due to the recent great weather. A huge recent donation will result in a $ 65 million Millett Hall renovation. The donor wants it spent on athletic upgrades.
  • Classified Staff Compensation – Tonya Moryl – absent
  • Council on Diversity and Inclusion (CODI) – Angie Brown – No recent meetings.
  • Fiscal Priorities – Alicia Miller – the committee is in continued conversation about the financial landscape of the university.
  • Hamilton & Middletown Regional Campus – Tonya Moryl – absent
  • University Senate – Cheryl Chafin – This committee mainly talked about how Senate Bill 83 is probably going to pass and what that means for Miami faculty. This would increase the required credit hour limit to 30 credit hours taught per 12-month period per faculty in the state of Ohio. Our faculty, among others across the state, are unhappy about this.
  • UPAC Liaison – Amy Newsome –didn’t attend the last meeting, but the agenda talks about UPAC electing new members. They are also updating their website.
  • Awards & Recognition Committee – New group that CPAC and UPAC will alternate a member on. This committee meets every other year. Fall 2023 will be UPAC rep Tresa Barlage Zianno, and Carley volunteered to be on this committee in Fall 2025.
