What makes a candidate stand out to you during the recruiting and interview process?
There are a few things that make candidates stand out during our hiring process. Exhibiting confidence and being well spoken are important in making a good first impression. Candidates who have taken the time to do research and come to an interview prepared with well-thought-out questions will always stand out. It’s also important to follow up with employers after an interview. Make sure to ask for the interviewer’s email before ending a call or meeting.
What advice would you give students to set themselves up for success as they pursue internships and their post-graduation goals?
Utilize all of the resources your college has for you. Go to the resume workshops, meet with your professors who are experts in the fields you are interested in, and take as many opportunities to network as you can. Get involved on campus. Joining clubs is a great way to network and take advantage of opportunities professionally and socially.
What have you observed that sets Miami University candidates apart from others?
Miami candidates have incredible interpersonal skills, are hard workers, and are ready to take everything they have learned in Oxford into the real world. They’re incredibly proud of their university and the education they received. I’m lucky to be able to say the same!
