From the Editor

This semester I celebrate a milestone anniversary at the Art Museum, TEN years! And this is the 20th Visual Arts at Miami magazine that I have created! The months leading up to this issue have been exciting as well as a lot different. In these 10 years I have been blessed to work with the same group of wonderful people with the exception of the Laura swap in 2012, when Collections Manager Laura Henderson retired and Laura Stewart stepped into the role. But since May, we’ve said “congratulations and best wishes in your retirement” not once, not twice, but THREE times and in the last eighteen months two other colleagues retired! That’s a lot of change! So here I am approaching this personal milestone, excited about this new semester, a terrific exhibition, and a new chapter having spent the last few months getting used to the new MUAM team! Thinking to myself (sharing with you all), I realize how lucky I am to enjoy working with these new folks in support of our mission as a teaching museum! Over the Summer we spent some time team-building, we visited some arts venues (Cincinnati Art Museum and Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park) and went horseback riding, and now we are knee deep into writing the next chapter as a new team looking forward to even more great years ahead!

Thank you Debbie Caudill, Sue Gambrell, Mark DeGennaro, Cynthia Collins and Bob Wicks for many great years, and for showing me the ropes! So glad you’re all close by and can stop by regularly!

As I prepare this 20th issue and we work on our plans for the next chapter of MUAM, I have begun thinking about the next generation of VAAM. Thank you to our members and readers. Be on the lookout for a revamp in the next year based on your feedback (send comments and suggestions to me at krazlsa@MiamiOh.edu). And until then, please get out and experience the Arts at Miami. They’re plentiful, engaging, inspiring and everywhere you look!
