Technology Requirements & Recommendations

Miami University’s official learning management system is Canvas. Before you get started with a Canvas course, make sure you meet the basic technical recommendations for using Canvas and get to know some of its settings and features.


Technical Recommendations

Before diving into one of our Canvas courses, make sure you’re prepared to meet the following recommendations:

Google Workspace

All Miami faculty, staff, and students have access to Google Workspace apps (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Meet, YouTube, and more) through their Miami UniqueID and MUnet Password.

  • Canvas Instructor Guide: text-based tutorials for Canvas (also created by Instructure)
  • Miami IT Services Knowledge Base: answers to questions about Canvas that are frequently answered by our IT Services staff
  • If you need to access any of these resources when you’re in another part of Canvas, just click the Help icon at the bottom of the lefthand menu (the dark gray one), and a pane will open that displays them.

    If you have further questions or experience issues (especially ones related to hardware, configuring your browser, or software downloaded to your computer), the IT Services Help Desk is standing by to support you.
