Miami University’s official learning management system is Canvas. Before you get started with a Canvas course, make sure you meet the basic technical recommendations for using Canvas and get to know some of its settings and features.
Technical Recommendations
Before diving into one of our Canvas courses, make sure you’re prepared to meet the following recommendations:
- Browsers: Latest versions of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox web browsers
- Computer System: Mac or PC capable of running at 2 GHz or more (Canvas’s basic computer specifications have more information)
- Internet Connection: Broadband Internet connection supporting data rates of 3.0 Mbps or greater (test your connection speed at Speedtest.net)
- Software: Microsoft Office 365 and Google Workplace
Google Workspace
All Miami faculty, staff, and students have access to Google Workspace apps (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Meet, YouTube, and more) through their Miami UniqueID and MUnet Password.
Canvas for Mobile Devices
Canvas has apps for Android and iOS phones and tablets. More information on how to use Canvas on your mobile device is available in the Canvas Mobile Guides.
Canvas Resources & Support
If you need to access any of these resources when you’re in another part of Canvas, just click the Help icon at the bottom of the lefthand menu (the dark gray one), and a pane will open that displays them.
