Online Course Development with Miami Online

This is a decision-making tree created by Miami Online to help faculty, staff, or chairs to determine whether or not they should build an online course with Miami Online or seek a design consultation.

Do you want to put a course online (asynchronous, synchronous, or hybrid) or update an existing online course?

Does the course have a course code (e.g., CIT 101) and title (e.g., Introduction to English Literature)?

Does this course have up-to-date Learning Outcomes listed in the Course Inventory Management (CIM) system?

  • If yes, continue reading!
  • If no, stop reading and ask your chair or dean to update the Course Inventory Management (CIM) system with the course Learning Outcomes.

Is the course you want to build going to be taught within the next three months (or twelve weeks)?

  • If yes, stop reading. That’s too soon to partner with us. Our course development process takes about 10-12 weeks to complete. Instead, we can provide one-on-one guidance and help for you via a Design Consultation (Book a Consultation with Miami Online), but we cannot hold space in our schedule to fully develop this course together. Reach out earlier next time to get on our schedule.
  • If no, continue reading! Our course development process takes about 10-12 weeks to complete in full, in which you sign a course development agreement with us and and are assigned a dedicated Learning Designer who will build the course alongside the Course Author (the faculty or staff member who serves as the subject matter expert and, most often, the future instructor of the course). To start course development with Miami Online, fill out this Course Development Request Form and someone from Miami Online will get back to you ASAP.

We look forward to working with you!
