Bringing a car back to Miami after Thanksgiving?

The parking reminder email below was sent to students living on campus who do not currently have a parking permit for fall 2023.

Dear Resident,

Occasionally students who did not already have a car on campus return with one after Thanksgiving break for the remainder of the fall semester. If you are planning to do this, here’s what you need to know:

*A parking permit is required to park on campus at all times.
*You may purchase two one-week permits online for $15 each. Log in to your student parking account, add your license plate & vehicle info, click “buy permits” and scroll down to “Temporary (daily, weekly) permits”. Purchase a one-week for 11/26-12/2 and then purchase the second week 12/3-12/9. (A permit is not required during finals week.) MiamiOH.edu/parking/portal
*These are yellow, residential student permits that will allow parking in the West Millett parking lot 24 hours a day.
*Avoid the Commuter Permits section of Millett lot because it does not allow overnight parking. Review the map in the parking blog to ensure you park in the correct section of the lot.
*The U4 bus visits this lot every 15 minutes so you can catch a ride to and from the lot.
In the evenings and on weekends permitted vehicles may park in the campus core near the residence halls, Rec Center, etc., but you must move your car to Millett West lot by 7 am weekdays or you may get a $75 ticket. See the posted signs around campus for the times those lots allow yellow permit parking.
*If you have a parking permit and need to pull up in front of your dorm to load or unload your car, call or email the Parking Office first and let us know your name, dorm, license plate and time you will be parked there. We will log it into the system and give you 20 minutes to load or unload. If you receive a ticket during that time, let us know, and we will waive it. Contact info below.

ShareFest 2019 Collection Site Requires Chestnut Fields Parking Restrictions

Parking Restriction May 13-20

ShareFest is an annual collection drive which accepts good-condition and reusable furniture, housewares, clothing, and non-perishable food from Miami University students and Oxford residents. Once again this year, ShareFest is basing its dispatch, sorting and collection operations in the Chestnut Fields parking lot which will require a number of parking spaces to accommodate them.

Please move vehicles from the areas shown in yellow on the attached map before Monday, May 13 at noon to avoid citations and towing at the owner’s cost.

How Does ShareFest Work?

Donors complete an online form with items they wish to donate and ShareFest volunteers go to the house or apartment to pick up the items during the chosen day and one-hour time block. Donated items are picked up by volunteers and staff of social service agencies from Butler County.

Social service agencies that receive donations will distribute items to people in need, or sell the items in their thrift stores. All proceeds from the sale of ShareFest donations must benefit the social service agency.

ShareFest helps keep the city clean and helps prevent usable items from going to the landfill while helping out members of the community in need.

Adding or Changing a Vehicle in the Self-Service Portal

Online parking services not available Aug. 10-13

Miami University’s Parking and Transportation Services will upgrade its parking management system beginning at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10. During that time, online parking services — such as purchasing a parking permit, online citation payments, and submitting appeals of parking citations — will not be available. No Miami University parking permit will be required for on-campus parking during this time.

The new parking management system will be available for public use at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13. The new system will provide greater flexibility for visitor and event parking, provide additional payment options for employees and students, and enhance communication between parking services and our customers. The new parking management system will allow customers to manage more of their parking account online and also allow Miami to adopt new technologies for increased efficiency over the next several years.

Shriver west, MacMillan Hall parking lots available for paid parking through Jan. 28

The Office of Admission has concluded its scheduled campus visits for the fall term and since their guests will not not require reserved parking until campus visits resume, the parking lots will be available to the public through Sun., Jan. 28.

No parking permit is required to park in either lot during this time, however vehicles parked in the Shriver Center west or MacMillan Hall parking lots should pay for parking at the kiosk in their respective parking lot. Display the receipt on the dashboard of the vehicle so it is visible to parking technicians enforcing time limits in the lots.

Kiosks accept coins and credit cards for payment. Parking rates are $1 per hour, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

Enforcement of restricted parking hours will resume at 7 a.m. on Mon., Jan. 29.

Fall 2017 parking changes for employees and admission guests

Miami University’s parking and transportation services is making several changes in fall 2017 to better allocate the parking spaces near Shriver Center.

The changes follow an occupancy study of the parking spaces reserved for admission guest visits during spring 2017 and modifications to the MacMillan Hall and Shriver Center west parking lots to increase capacity.

Maple Street

Employee (RED permit) parking will be returned to 30 spaces on Maple from Hiestand Hall to Center Drive.
Short-term metered parking will be available on Maple from Hiestand to Spring Street but may be restricted to admission guest parking during anticipated peak admission visit times.

Signs will be posted on parking meter poles, and the meters will display restrictions when they are in effect. Metered parking on Maple will cost $2 per hour during peak hours (7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday) and $1 per hour at other times. Parking meters are enforced 7 a.m.-10 p.m. seven days a week.

MacMillan Hall and Shriver Center west parking lots

The lots will be restricted to vehicles displaying admission guest parking permits 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday.
After 4 p.m. and all day on weekends the parking lots will have paid parking available to the public. Payments will be made at a kiosk located in each lot, and the receipt issued at the kiosk showing the expiration time must be displayed on the parked vehicle’s dashboard.

Paid parking will cost $1 per hour and be enforced anytime the lot is not restricted to admission guest parking, including overnight.

These changes and restrictions are expected to take effect on Friday, Aug. 18, when construction in these areas has been completed.

Additional parking

Additional employee (RED permit) parking will be added to lots at the Center for Performing Arts, Bachelor Hall and on the east side of Cook Field to replace the spaces allocated for admission parking in the MacMillan and Shriver Center lots. It will be available by the end of September.
The southwest corner of the Cook Field parking lot that was to have parking meters installed will remain employee (RED permit) parking 7 a.m.-6 p.m Monday-Friday and be available to anyone with a valid Miami University parking permit at all other times.

All parking restrictions, time limits and prices will be clearly displayed on signs in the affected areas.

North parking garage traffic changes

In response to concerns about wait times to exit the north parking garage, parking and transportation services has made changes to the traffic flow within the garage. The plan, which was provided by a parking consultant to improve the efficiency of the parking garage, will be piloted during the fall 2017-18 semester.

Six parking spaces have been removed so that vehicles may circulate on the entry level of the parking garage and direct access to the exit lane has been barricaded. Signs and barricades have been placed to indicate the parking restrictions and traffic flow. Please observe the parking restrictions and traffic signs in the garage.

Garage customers can further decrease their wait times at exit by having their parking ticket and payment method ready upon arrival at the gates, or by pre-paying for their exit at the kiosk at the elevator on the entry level before driving to the exit gates.

Both students and employees may use their Miami University ID card to pay for garage parking with their MUlaa account (students and employees) or payroll deduction (employees). Simply tap the card at the entrance, then tap the same card at the exit to have the amount of the stay deducted from your account. Credit and debit cards are accepted at the exits and payment kiosk for payment. Cash and coin is accepted only at the payment kiosk by the elevator on the entry level.

Parking rates in the north garage are $2 for the first hour, $1 for each additional hour. A $25 fee is assessed in addition to parking rates for lost tickets.

Parking garages resume normal operation 8/7

Miami’s north parking garage beneath the Engineering Building has been closed since the beginning of July for maintenance to the structure. During that time, the south parking garage on Campus Ave. has been open and available for no fee. Beginning Mon., July 31 the north parking garage will reopen and both garages will be available for parking for no fee until Mon., Aug. 7 at which time gate operations will resume.

Parking in the north garage is $2 for the first hour and $1 for each additional hour. Parking in the south garage is $1 for the first hour and 50 cents for each additional hour. Payment may be made with credit/debit cards at the exit gates or with cash at the payment kiosk on the entry level of each garage near the elevator.

There will still be some ongoing work within the stairwells of the north parking garage, but areas to avoid will be clearly marked by contractors.

Garage access now uses Miami ID card

Beginning Mon., Aug. 7 students and employees who have purchased prepaid access to either parking garage will use their Miami ID card for access to the garage. If you have prepaid for garage access when you purchased your parking permit, your ID card will open the gate upon entry and exit.

To use your Miami ID card to enter the garage, tap the ID card to the sensor on the entry column when entering the parking garage — the gate will open when your card is recognized. If the gate does not open when you tap at the entry, press the ticket button on the column and contact the parking services office after parking your car. If the entry gate is open when you arrive at the garage, you should still tap your ID card upon entry or you may not be able to exit.

To use your Miami ID card to exit the garage, tap the ID card to the sensor on the exit column when exiting the parking garage — the gate will open when your card is recognized. If the gate does not open when you tap at the exit, press and hold the intercom button and someone will connect by phone to assist you. If the exit gate is open when you leave the garage, you should still tap your ID card upon exit or you may not be able to enter when you return to the garage again.

MUlaa and payroll deduction for garage parking

If you did not purchase garage access at the time you purchased your parking permit, you may still use your Miami ID card to pay for parking in the garage with your MUlaa declining balance account or payroll deduction (for eligible employees). Follow the same steps as above for entry and exit but understand that a deduction will be made from the appropriate account (MUlaa or payroll) for each transaction. If sufficient funds are not available upon entry, the card will be declined; you may still take a ticket from the entry column and pay with another method upon exit.

Most of Maple Street closed three weeks, July 31-Aug. 18

To complete several significant construction and paving jobs, Miami University will close Maple Street on the Oxford campus from Center Drive to E. Spring St. from July 31-Aug. 18.

E. Spring St. remains closed at Maple St. due to work installing a raised intersection.

Crews will install new tunnel tops on much of the sidewalk on Maple, repave the street and install new curbing.

While Maple St. is closed, there will be no access to the MacMillan nor Shriver west parking lots. Visitors to the admission welcome center will park in south Cook Field parking lots through Aug. 4, after which admission tours take a break for three weeks. Employees can not park in the south Cook Field lot July 31-Aug. 4.

The west Patterson Dr. sidewalks also will be closed from the art building north to Spring St. during this time. Sections of the street and sidewalk may open before Aug. 18.

Miami University’s north parking garage (beneath the engineering building) will reopen Mon., July 31, after being closed throughout July for facility maintenance. To help facilitate the Maple Street work, both the north parking garage and south parking garage on Campus Ave. will be available for parking for no fee until Mon., Aug. 7, when Cook Field spaces are again available to employees.
