Akima Eecipoonkwia ‘Chief Doug Lankford’s’ Sash. Made by Karen Baldwin for the Chief of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma to wear at Miami University events. This sash combines the materials and the aesthetics of the first peak of the Myaamia ribbonwork: wool broadcloth, diamond ribbonwork, and silver brooches with machine embroidered text and imagery. This sash demonstrates how we have reinvigorated ribbon work practices, so that we can display our aesthetics in new ways and in new environments, such as college graduations.
