Thinking about traveling abroad?

By Hannah Armentrout —

Marnie Nelson, the assistant director of education abroad, says the assumption that traveling
abroad is expensive is a myth. If you’re looking to travel abroad and you’re on a budget, Ms.
Nelson encourages students to look at countries where the cost of living is low. Furthermore, she
says that Thailand and Prague are great places to go at an affordable price. She also stresses that
travelling abroad is around the same price as Oxford tuition. To Oxford students, this is good
news, but to Regional students, this can be unjustifiable.

Ms. Nelson says that there are many scholarships that students can apply for if they’re seeking to
travel abroad. It is also worth noting that the scholarships a student might already have in place
will apply abroad.

She also says that the most popular places to go are Spain, Italy, Barcelona, London, and Rome.
Students do not have to be any specific major to travel abroad; any student of any major can
apply. Additionally, traveling abroad is a great way to learn a new language if one is interested in
doing so. However, learning a new language to travel abroad is certainly not required; there are
plenty of classes that are in English.

If you want to travel abroad and are discouraged by finances, you can always meet with an
advisor and discuss your options. For more information, go here.
