Synesthesia AR Experience

VISION To leverage Augmented Reality (AR) to simulate audio-visual synesthesia; the neurological phenomenon where auditory stimuli trigger automatic visual perceptions. This project should enable non-synesthetic users to conceptualize, comprehend, and appreciate the unique way in which music is perceived by synesthetes.
MISSION To create an Augmented Reality (AR) application that simulates audio-visual synesthesia by translating the properties of pre-recorded music into immersive visuals, informed by first-hand accounts from synesthetes. Using audio analysis of downloaded tracks, the simulation maps properties of sound such as frequency, amplitude, and timbre to visual characteristics like color, shape, size, and motion—thereby providing non-synesthetic users the ability to explore and appreciate how individuals with synesthesia might perceive music.
