Options to Reduce Parking Costs for Employees

It is time for employees to renew their annual parking permit, 2015-16 parking permits will expire June 30, 2016. Red (employee surface lot) parking permits will increase in price to $125 for 2016-17. Most employees are eligible to have the cost for their parking permit payroll deducted in equal installments throughout the year on a pre-tax basis. To purchase your 2016-17 parking permit, go to the parking services Website (http://www.MiamiOH.edu/parking) and follow the “Permits” link on the left, or stop in the parking office to purchase your new permit.

Miami University recognizes that increasing parking costs can be a burden on employees’ finances, so the Parking and Transportation Services Office offers the following options to help manage parking costs.

Park in a remote lot with a free permit

Miami has designated several areas as “remote” parking lots which require a no-cost white (employee remote lots) parking permit. These lots include Ditmer Field, west Millett lot, Chestnut Fields lot, Culinary Support Center, Brown Rd. lot and the Harris South lot (located between the south chiller plant and E. Chestnut St.).

Vehicles with a white (employee remote lots) parking permit can use these remote lots at all times and park in all other campus lots after 6 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends.

Ride the BCRTA for free

Miami’s contract with the Butler County Regional Transit Authority (BCRTA) allows all university employees to ride campus and regional transit routes for no fare just by showing your university ID card. BCRTA fares are currently $2 per trip for those without a Miami University ID card.

There are transit routes between the regional campuses and Oxford Campus that operate on weekdays year-round. There are also transit routes from the remote lots and center of campus that operate on weekdays year-round. Route maps and timetables can be found on BCRTA’s website at: http://www.ButlerCountyRTA.com.

Create a vanpool to park on campus for free

A vanpool is a group made up of three or more employees that allows all individuals to share one red (employee surface lot) parking permit at no cost. Members of a vanpool CAN be related or live in the same household. Each member of the vanpool will also receive 5 daily permits per semester for the occasions when vanpooling is not convenient. Additional daily permits may be purchased for $2 each if needed.

Create a carpool to park on campus for less

A carpool is a group made up of two employees that allows both individuals to share one red (employee surface lot) parking permit at a lower cost ($30/year). Members of a carpool CAN be related or live in the same household.  The cost of the carpool permit is shared equally between employees. Each member of the carpool will also receive 5 daily permits per semester for the occasions when carpooling is not convenient. Additional daily permits may be purchased for $2 each if needed.
