Miami Hamilton recently held its career/internship in Harry T. Wilks Conference Center with over 40 employers present looking to network with students and alumni. The following were some of the businesses and organizations who decided to set up a booth.
Lisa McMillion (right) from 4C for Children, a Childcare Resource Agency, is looking for students interested in childhood education. They provide opportunities for students to gain more experience in the field, including paid training, financial stipends, and assistance with resumes and interviews. There is also a substitute teaching career path opportunity for those wanting a head start in that field.
Warren County Career Center offers training and specialists for both high school students and adults looking for a career. They have programs ranging from industrial trades to cybersecurity, and even cosmetology. Kevin Gale, the Director of Human Resources, was set up at the Career Fair, handing out information to students.
Multiple police departments from around the area had officers present and set up at their own booths. Some of the cities in attendance were Hamilton, Miamisburg, Dayton, and Oxford. All were of course looking for new officers, but many have opportunities within the department for more unique positions.
After recently opening up their complex in Hamilton, Spooky Nook is still looking for part-time and full-time employees. Not only is Spooky Nook a sports venue, it also features a massive conference center and hotel on site. Employees get to enjoy many benefits that come from working in a place like this, including discounts, access to amenities like the gym, and free childcare. Tara Dinkle and TJ Rice, pictured above, were representing Spooky Nook at the fair.
The Hamilton County Communications Center is where 911 and non-emergency calls for all of Hamilton County are directed in order to dispatch police, fire, and medical services. This is a great way for someone to give back to his or her community while getting paid, and can lead to other career opportunities in public safety.
Chelsea Garvey from United Performance Metals made its booth memorable by bringing a sample of the company’s product, an assortment of steel parts, for attendees to experiment with. UPMet is looking to fill a variety of positions. Employees have the opportunity to gain experience in machine operation, shipping and receiving, and sales.
Ohio College2Careers partners with colleges around Ohio, including Miami University, to help students get on a solid career path after graduating. They offer services such as career counseling, resume/interview prep, and finacial support, but also have internship oppoortunties, academic support, and connections to an employer network.
Surprisingly, it wasn’t Kings Island but Ceder Point, in Sandusky, Ohio, who was representing theme parks at the fair. Also surprising was the game they brought, pictured on the left. As part of this game, attendees were asked to drop a ball and catch it on the bottom to win a prize. Cedar Point has plenty of options for both careers and internships in areas like park management, hospitality and tourism, and ride operations. Ceder Point also offers housing accommodations for those looking to work from outside the local area.
Sergent Smith was representing the US Army with a booth at the fair, offering information on recruitment and how students can get the most from this service branch. The military recruits for a wide variety of positions that many wouldn’t expect, in fields such as health care, communications, music, and engineering, all of which require different backgrounds and levels of education.
JML Landscape is a Pittsburgh-based landscaping company with a special opportunity for students interested in the industry. Their landscape management program trains people on all aspects and trades related to landscaping in order to give them the tools and experience they need to land a good job or start their own business.
Carson Hambrick, HR Recruiter from Great Wolf Lodge, was manning the booth and giving out information about their full- and part-time positions such as the management development program, as well as summer internships. The latter is very appealing to students, as it takes place during summer break and provides valuable experience in hospitality and entertainment. Networking opportunities in the industry are another bonus of working such a position.
Located in South Bend, Indiana, South Bend Schools is looking for those interested in teaching in a unique city that is still growing and developing. The continued growth of the city is reflected in the schools, with free home internet services, cutting-edge technology, and professional learning opportunities.
Medpace is a Cincinnati-based clinical research organization that was offering students internships in many aspects of the field, including lab research, clinical operations, and software development. Medpace offers interns state-of-the-art offices, flexible schedules, and pathways to full-time employment.
