Low-Key Jam Session at Hamilton Downtown

By Ana Diaz —

On the second Wednesday of each month, the Miami Hamilton Downtown Center hosts SongFarmers, an amateur acoustic jam session open to anyone. It’s a low-key, no-pressure night. No one is expected to play, and anyone is welcome to just to listen, dance, or meet other music-lovers.

On one particular Wednesday evening, as the last of the daylight was beginning to fade, Hamilton Downtown was occupied by less than a dozen people who had gathered for the session. Four were at the front of the room playing their instruments. A few had sheet music in front of them; others did not. There were three guitars, and charmingly, an accordion, which added some interest to the soft and slightly Southern sounds coming from the guitars. One player sang lyrics to some of the songs.

A few folks, including me, were hanging out in the back of the room, stamping our Miami Passports or just relaxing and listening to the music. SongFarmers is a great way for music lovers to meet like-minded people, practice their skills, or for anyone to relax and hear some tunes for free in a low-key setting.

Anyone interested in making it to the next SongFarmers session should head to Hamilton Downtown Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 7 PM.
