IGNITE: Women in Politics

By Hannah Armentrout—

IGNITE is a national organization that encourages young women to get involved in
politics. Women make up approximately 51% of the population, but less than 30%
of Congress. IGNITE is on a mission to change this by providing an outlet for
young women to let their voices be heard.

Three women at Miami University have recently started an IGNITE chapter at
Oxford. Jasmine Pearson is the president, Annalise Chapdelaine is the secretary,
and Hannah Armentrout is the treasurer. When asked why they chose IGNITE,
Jasmine Pearson said, “I’m passionate about politics and I want to get more
women involved.” Annalise Chapdelaine echoed this sentiment: “I’m passionate
about gender equity and increasing women’s confidence and voices in all
environments!” Finally, Hannah Armentrout added, “I’m passionate about politics
and want to run for office one day”

IGNITE is a great way for Regionals students to get involved on Oxford’s campus
and make a difference. This organization has meetings every other Tuesday at 7
pm. They discuss women in office and the current issues they’re facing, all while
remaining as bipartisan as possible. The girls try to make talking about politics fun
by doing trivia, watching political documentaries, and doing fun activities. At the
next meeting, on October 18 th at 7pm, IGNITE will be making vision boards and
brainstorming the characteristics of successful women leaders.
