IT Diversity Event – Service Dogs in the Workplace

IT had a great turn out for the IT Services Diversity Event yesterday!  Here is a copy of the handout that was presented to the group.  Thank you to all who attended!

The highlighted “No Pets” portion of this is a little misleading as there is still the potential for discrimination under the Fair Housing Act (Title VIII). Here are a few examples that an Oxford, Ohio resident with a service animal might encounter where they aren’t federally protected by the Fair Housing Act:

If you are renting or buying a single family home from an individual (and not through an agency) and that individual owns three or less single family homes (For Sale by Owner, FSBO, FRBO)
If you are renting a room in someone’s owner-occupied house (think Craigslist, roomshares, etc.)
If you are renting an apartment in an owner-occupied apartment complex with four or less units (quadplex, triplex, or duplex)
Anything requiring club or religious organization membership (gotta be a member of that club or religion)
