Indoor/Outdoor Localization and Mapping

Vision Indoor-Outdoor Localization and Mapping using Multimodal Sensing and Machine Learning is a project designed to empower visually impaired individuals to navigate both indoor and outdoor spaces with ease and independence. Its goal is to enhance accessibility, ensuring that everyone regardless of mobility or vision, can move freely and confidently within their environment. By granting greater independence and connection, this project seeks to improve quality of life and promote inclusivity for all.
Mission Our team will build a multimodal sensing and machine learning pipeline that leverages mmWave radar, alongside other sensing modalities, to achieve robust indoor–outdoor localization and mapping. Millimeter wave (mmWave) sensor scanning technology offers key advantages: it is versatile, privacy-preserving (anonymized), and effective in diverse lighting and environmental conditions. We will use this technology to detect obstacles, walls, and navigable paths and to provide real-time orientation feedback.
