I am a Botany masters student working on soybean epigenetics and pathogen response under the supervision of Dr. Zhao. I graduated from Colorado College in 2020 and am interested in sustainable agriculture, plant physiology, and genomics.
- Mahmood Hasan, Ph.D. student, CMSB, 2021-present
I did my graduation in Botany from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Later, I went to Scotland for my post-graduation in Biotechnology at the University of Edinburgh with Commonwealth Scholarship. I have a research interest in molecular genetics and genomics of crop plants. I am doing my PhD under the supervision of Dr. Zhao at Miami University and my research is primarily focused on understanding the genomic and epigenomic features controlling meiotic recombination in maize through bioinformatics analysis.

I got a bachelor degree from Shaanxi Normal University in 2014, majored in Biotechnology. After that, I went to Saint Mary’s University (Canada) to further my study in Dr. Genlou Sun’s Lab and, in 2017, I got a Master degree in Applied Science. Now, as a PhD Student in Dr. Zhao’s Lab, I mainly focus on investigating the initiation and maintenance of epigenetic silencing in maize. In addition, I am also interested in evolutionary biology with an emphasis on transposable elements and host-disease interactions using Brassica and soybean as model systems.

My name is Alaina Singh and I am a sophomore Biology/Pre-Med major with a minor in Global Health Studies. I am a member of the Honors program, and am involved in many organizations on campus such as MEDLIFE, Miami M.E.D, and the National Society of Leadership and Success. Outside of research, I like to read, drink coffee, volunteer at my local hospital, and spend time with family and friends!

I am a sophomore Biology/Pre-Med major with a minor in Spanish. Outside of research, I’m in photography club, an avid Cleveland Browns fan, a STNA and OMA volunteer, and a member of Phi Delta Epsilon and MedLife.
