The Western College Alumnae Association [WCAA] came into existence in 1974 when Western College closed due to financial difficulties and the campus was purchased by Miami University. A Board of twenty trustees, elected from the membership to serve three-year terms, administered the business of the organization.
The mission of the Association was two-fold:
To preserve communication within the Western family
To support education and human values.
Communication was preserved through the publication of a semi-annual alumnae magazine, The Bulletin, periodic e-mail newsletter, annual club meetings across the U.S. and an all-class Alumnae Weekend on the Western Campus each June.
By 2024, the Association had awarded scholarships to 3,500 students, endowed a Western College Professorship, a Seminar Series, a Young Artist Concert Series, a teaching award and learning centers on the Western campus. These endowments will continue in perpetuity and support students and academic programs, as well as provide some funding for preservation of the Western Campus.
On June 6-9, 2024, the WCAA hosted its final Alumnae Weekend on the Western Campus as a separate organization. Operations were closed on June 30, 2024 and Westerners joined the Western College Spirit 1853-1977 affinity group supported by the Miami University Alumni Association.
