It’s a part of my everyday life both personally and professionally. I prioritize it in my day to be healthy with regular exercise and training. I also work in the YMCA so I advocate for healthy living, all aspects of wellness and showing that impact on our community.
I train and race in triathlons. I enjoy other active habits like running both on road and trail, riding bikes with my family. My family goes camping and we explore new areas to hike, paddleboard, and have new experiences.
Shawn Britton (my husband) has been my biggest supporter and motivator in all areas of my life, to be active and healthy, never stop learning and to be better, and leading our family to stand by our values, to be active together.
Ron Siliko was my bossman for my entire career at Miami Recreation, as a student all the way through as a Director. Ron was a great mentor helping me learn, grow, being patient (which was the greatest of feats), and helping me lean into my own strengths while growing through challenges.
I joined the Miami Rec team as a sophomore in college and spent 15 years from student staff through professional staff. Through so many personal and professional challenges of life, the Rec provided an incredible place to learn, grow, make mistakes, support my family, and make some amazing friends. It changed the course of my life, I even met my husband when we both worked at the Rec!
Get a job somewhere, anywhere. I learned to balance the ebbs and flows of life around school, friends, and work, met some awesome people, and having a job begins to build your experience on a team, balancing schedules, and finances.
My favorite memories were Lead Staff trips. We always had such a good time being together, visiting other Rec facilities, and making lots of memories. Our team got so much closer when we went on those trips and had a chance to get to know each other very well.
