I have lived and learned through health, wellness, and recreation for my entire life. I have devoted my career in higher education to instilling and supporting campus community health and wellbeing. I believe it is a fundamental component of each of us living lives to our fullest potential and capacity. Specifically, through recreation and wellness, the holistic sense of wellbeing including mental, emotional, social, and spiritual can be more fully realized.
I enjoy being active through a wide variety of physical activities that include walking, traveling, gardening and yard work, spending time with our large family, enjoying reading and music and just being present in all that I do.
Jim Potter, Trinity University, Sally Myers and Patty Holmes, Miami University, Bob Childress, The University of Texas, and Molly Lawrence (The University of Alabama).
I learned and enjoyed the camaraderie and teamwork of my fellow GA’s at Miami. We all were close to one another, supported each other in and out of the classroom and made us aware that being a part of such a caring and committed group with great leadership from our professional staff was a profession that I could (and would!) see myself in as a career.
Enjoy and get involved. Be patient in the pursuits that you take on. Stay balanced in all you take on as the highs and lows will come and the difference is often not as great as you think in the moment. Be willing to put yourself out there. The apprehension you may feel as a new student is shared by many others and getting connected with each other is a powerful opportunity for growth.
The times our GA cohort were in the Morris House (Recreation offices) with the laughter we shared and the truest sense of friendship we had for one another. Our outdoor adventure retreats bonded us in a special way. Playing summer IM softball and learning Korfball were among the best and most vivid highlights. I will cherish these forever.
