Learn about Chrissy
I taught up to 10 aerobics classes each week. I specialized in Step, Spinning, Pilates, Toning, and Hip Hop Dance.
It is important to set time aside for yourself and clear your mind. Although I spent many years teaching fitness classes, those classes focused on other people’s workouts and goals. With limited time to exercise between work, family and other commitments, my workout time is now purely for me. I change up my workout plan daily to meet my current mood. No matter how busy I am, taking the time to do something just for my mental and physical health is a gift.
My favorite exercise now is walking my dog. My husband and I recently completed a 150 mile bike ride for charity and I am starting to learn to golf, but I have a lot of room for improvement. I also love peloton classes – especially the strength classes, and sometimes the bike. I love hot yoga classes too.
I love cheering on my kids who swim, run and play basketball. It is pretty cool to see them excel in activities that I am horrible at.
April White led our team of instructors. She taught all of us how to teach and have proper form and technique.
Getting up in front of a group of strangers and leading a class has helped me with public speaking, which has helped in my career when I give presentations.
Use all of the facilities at the rec, but also get outside and exercise. Miami has amazing trails. When I come back to campus, I love to bring my bike and explore. There are also a lot of great hiking trails. I wish I would have done more of that when I was a student.
I used to ride my bike through Hueston Woods, but the new bike trails around the edge of campus are really nice.
Free week was always insanely busy (free aerobics classes the first week back in January). I taught a hip hop class to over 800 students on the basketball courts. I was on a stage with a microphone.
The aerobics instructors had fun together. We tried organizing a pub crawl and even made t-shirts. But being health-conscious people, we really didn’t drink too much or make it to all the bars on the list.

I am a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA). I am also on Miami’s Accounting Advisory Board, where we meet twice a year with accounting faculty, accounting students and FSB administrators. We want to encourage more students to become accounting majors and talk through ideas to help them succeed.
