Artist Statement: For many whose gender identity differs from their assigned gender, it’s easy to experience a disconnect between one’s self and one’s body; this is known as gender dysphoria. Those who do not identify with the female body, bodily changes related to reproduction can worsen dysphoria. This piece utilizes the circle to represent rounded forms of the body, referencing connections between gender dysphoria and unwanted maternal body changes.
