Desire, Conflict & Exchange is the culminating work of the 2019 Art & Architecture History Senior Capstone seminar at Miami University.
We would like to thank Dr. Michael J. Hatch for his enduring encouragement and guidance throughout the past semester. His passion for educating prevailed through his constant dedication to the Senior Capstone students. Dr. Hatch’s invaluable enthusiasm for Asian arts permeated the classroom and instilled in us an excitement of our own.
Special appreciation is extended to Jason E. Shaiman, Curator of Exhibitions, and Laura Stewart, Collections Manager/Registrar, for guiding us through the curatorial and collections processes. Their diligent brainstorming, discussion sessions, continued enthusiasm, flexibility and receptiveness allowed for us to create a truly distinctive exhibition.
Our sincere appreciation goes to the staff of the Miami University Art Museum for their time and generosity in sharing their expertise of the museum world. In particular, we would like to acknowledge Dr. Robert S. Wicks, Director; Mark DeGennaro, Preparator/Operations Manager; Sherri Krazl, Coordinator of Marketing and Communications; Cynthia Collins, Curator of Education; Grace Bihl, Graphic Design student; and Scott Kissel, Photographer. Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to the Art & Architecture History faculty for preparing us to undertake such an incredible and special opportunity.
We would also like to express our thanks to the Art Bridges program, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and the Alice L. Walton Foundation for sponsoring the loan of the Charles Caryl Coleman painting Still Life with Peaches.
