Courses Taught

Spring 2019

MME 412/512: Advanced Mechanics of Materials-This course is the advanced study of mechanical behavior of structures. Analysis, design and computational techniques for curved beams, spinning disks, thick-walled cylinders, asymmetric beams, torsion, and buckling will be introduced with the foundations for energy and finite element methods.

Semester Design Competition: Students were required to reverse engineer a double leaf spring cantilever beam utilizing 3D printing or waterjet plastic materials. Each student group designed and built their springs and compared them to the original design during class. The design with the  stiffness value that most closely matched with the original design’s stiffness was declared the champion (“spring king/stiffness princess”) for the semester.

Spring 2019: Design Project Winners (Elaine Gossard, Yuxin Xiu, and Seng Hour Ngann)

Fall 2018

MME 412/512: Advanced Mechanics of Materials-This course is the advanced study of mechanical behavior of structures. Analysis, design and computational techniques for curved beams, spinning disks, thick-walled cylinders, asymmetric beams, torsion, and buckling will be introduced with the foundations for energy and finite element methods.
